I really want to go to Columbia, but of course, these grades really don't seem like that of someone that would be admitted. Do you have any suggestions of what I could do to explain this, or any other schools I should apply to in the North East? Thank you.

you can’t lie and make up reasons of why your grades are that way. What I would do to make the most out of your chance is make sure that the rest of your application is solid. Then you may have a chance, but it will be extremely slim…sorry to break it to you. Why don’t you try for some other great colleges?? there are so many out there…

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/740556-chance-average-indian.html

You have taken a difficult courseload, however, your grades are certainly not the best, and we just cannot chance you unless we have GPA, SAT, and EC’s. You’re not going to get in Columbia, but I think you should try the CUNY system, or maybe Fordham.

I don’t want to make up reasons why my grades are so bad, but I’ll certainly consider other schools.

Look at Pace, Fordham, The New School, Hunter College, or Baruch College. There all in Manhattan. I guess it really just depends what you want to major in.

You’re not going to get into Columbia, but you do have plenty of other options. There are tons of great schools out there where you’ll be happy at, even if it’s not Columbia. Damon1570 gave you some great suggestions on other schools in Manhattan.

What are you interested in majoring in? Do you want a large school or a smaller one? Urban setting like Columbia or are you open to more suburban or rural schools as well? Also, are you a URM or do you have some other hook that could help you?
