I'm sure you're all tired of these threads, but humor my insecurity. Chances?

White male, likely math major.

SAT1: 2400
SAT2s: 800 Math 2, 800 Chemistry, 800 Physics
GPA: ~3.96 unweighted
Rank: School doesn't rank, but in top 1-2%.
APs: 5 Calculus BC, 5 US History, taking 6 more this year.
Essays: Hard to say, but I think they're quite good.
ECs: Good, but nothing absolutely amazing; also, mainly academic. Some leadership - two captaincies.
Recommendations: Very good

Nothing that would qualify as a hook.

If I'm giving the impression that I'm only posting this to show off or something, I really don't intend to be; I'm seriously interested in reading what you all have to say. Mainly what I'm concerned about are rumors I've heard (that admittedly may very well be completely false) about Tufts seemingly arbitrarily rejecting people whom they think are using it as a safety. I don't know if there's any element of truth to this, but it would really suck if it were, since Tufts is one of my first choices, and I certainly don't consider it to be just a "safe" school to which to go if I don't get into anywhere else. Also, it would mean that the essays are likely the most important part of my application, and while I'm confident in my ability to write, it's never easy to predict what an admissions committee will think of them.

Input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Put time into your application - that's all that matters. If you sincerely consider this one of your top choices, it will (hopefully) show through your work. However, with your extremely impressive academics, I'd say they'd be hard pressed to not let you in.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Thanks for the laugh.

Uh oh, MIT is starting to defer and reject students with perfect stats. My prediction is that it'll take about 20 years for every school ranked in the "top 30", like Tufts, to do the same. There are more qualified students each year but colleges are not making more room for them.

But xyzzy, you're not alone. A friend of mine with a 2370 who is graduating at the top of perhaps the best high school in Massachusetts also was deferred this year.

As long as you don't screw up your application, you could safely assume Tufts as a safety school for the Class of 2011.

All right, that's what I figured. I did invest time into writing a good application, so things should be fine there. The pressure of the whole process is just getting to me, I suppose.
