<p>As someone who has no deep knowledge and just hangs around school forums with math/science/engineering focuses in general, I’ll say yes, you have a chance, but there’s a lot of luck involved once you’re basically a strong candidate (people at the elite schools want to accept more people than they can) - they can’t accept the same kind of person for all their spots, so they select for distinct kinds of people who exemplify their mission. That is, a blend of academic ability and mindset and skills/interests…and probably more that I’m missing.</p>

<p>The reason I wrote this is as a concise summary of what Karen’s link is meant to change about your thinking regarding the admissions process (whereby “chances” are less useful than you’d expect) at MIT and, although only implicitly, in general for many of the elites (which, as the thread I directed you to should suggest, are NOT all looking for the same thing).</p>
