I am from VA and have applied to these schools:

JMU (Legacy)
UVA (CAS) (Legacy)
Villanova (Business School)
UNC

I have a strong interest in all four, it really will come down to acceptances.
Now I know my stats might be too low. But let me know what you think.

i would wait until next year if i were you. it’ll make your college app stronger and your HS stats won’t matter as much

Same, and I would drop UVA and UNC. If you’re applying out of state to those places, even with an extra year, your stats will kill you. If you’re willing to look at Villanova’s business school, you might as well look at Northeastern’s and the CUNY Zicklin school. Both are actually better at getting you a decent job. You might have a marginally better chance at William and Mary than UVA, though it would still, again even with an extra year, be a very high reach.

I’m willing to bet you are instate right? If you were to apply now, JMU would probably be really realistic. Otherwise I would wait till next year when you have about 2 years of college work. Your high school gpa won’t matter much then.

I am in-state. I wish I could wait until next year but I don’t want to come back to my current school. A whole year more would be…well… painful. I’m pretty content with JMU. But the inner me wants to reach a little higher. I saw on UNC’s website that the average sophomore transfer has a 3.45 GPA, and heard that they do not consider state residency in transfers. Now I don’t know how true this is…but if so, could UNC be possible with good essays and recommendations. Also does being in-state and a legacy increase hope for UVA?
I no one can tell me for sure…but thoughts are helpful?

I know what you mean about JMU, I transferred there from Virginia Tech, and I am sick of all the people that ask me why…its a long story anyways. I don’t know too much about UNC so I can’t really help you there. But as for Uva, of course legacy and in-state will help you out…but you haven’t really had that much college work yet. I know people who have been rejected twice from UVa, but got in on the third time. This was because they built up the college work to negate their average gpas in high school. First year transfers typically have really high GPAs/SATs in high school along with excellent work their first semester of college. You might as well try, who knows what could happen. I know how crappy it would be to stay at school for another year, but it might be worth it to find something better in the long run if it doesn’t work out.
