I received a number of acceptance letters from SUNYs and I need help picking between SUNYs Oswego and NewPaltz. I havent been to either so Ive tried as much research as I can, including Youtube, which brings me here. I dont know how the area around the campus are. I heard Oswego can get boring quick but Im not sure about New Paltz. Im probably going to get into Economics so academically I dont think there will be a problem. New Paltz is way closer than Oswego but I dont know where to really go...Im leaning towards Oswego but I dont know if I should go the other way. Any suggestions?

Isn’t it past the time to accept?? Both are good choices. New Paltz definitely has more happening in the surrounding area and you can access a train to NYC.

New Paltz is a really hot school right now and has a creative and friendly student body with a very accepting environment. The academics are top notch with most professors very interested in their students and willing to provide help whenever needed. My son is having a great experience there as a transfer student. The surrounding area is beautiful with opportunities for loads of outdoor adventure activities. The town is fun and funky and great for college kids. Poughkeepsie is a short ride away with malls and the big chain stores. The great location is a huge plus as well…it’s a great place to go to school.

Oswego is a small city hugging a big lake…lots of snow, wind, and hockey! No mall nearby, most shopping is at the other end of town from the campus. It’s an older city and a bit rundown in appearance, some small businesses/restaurants are fairly close to the campus as I remember. It’s not easy to get to without a car, although it’s an easy drive from Syracuse. Can’t give much info on the school itself as it’s been years but I would encourage you to at least visit New Paltz, if they have a decent econ program, before you make a commitment.
