Youngboi - We’re also from Illinois and D’s HS shows ACT scores on the transcript, but they’ve told us we HAVE to send official scores to all the colleges for admissions purposes. I think there are enough colleges out there that require the official score reports that it’s not worth trying to rely on the transcript. This doesn’t strike me as a time to be the squeaky wheel and try to negotiate with UA to save a few bucks. Just send the official reports ASAP.

WOW! You always hear the negative things people do but not enough of the nice things people do. What an extremely generous offer. Sometimes we don’t see the forest for the trees!

theyoungboi - listen to Mom and AL34 - They are wise!!!

Good news everybody: I just called UA again and they apologized for the misunderstanding earlier, and stated they would accept those ACT scores. What a relief! My application is ready to be reviewed now and I am in line to get the scholarship. Thanks to everyone who helped me address the situation.

^^^

Yeah!!! I’m so glad it’s all working out!

Let us know immediately if there are any other hiccups.

When I called scholarships today, I first got a w/s student on the phone. Those kids really don’t know the nuances of scholarships. They really should immediately refer such questions to the full-time employees.

theyoungboi, are you still going to send in the Official score through ACT?

great news - not to be a buzz-kill though but I’d check every school you used the transcript-ACT scores on to make sure they’re ok, just to be sure.

Yeah, thanks AL for that advice. I’m only applying to a few other schools besides UA though and I know for a fact that both of those schools will accept those scores so I have no worries. Ultimately, I’ll have to submit my official scores from the ACT agency anyway to the college I will attend; however, I just thought it was pointless to pay extra money when I did not need to. I admit I was a little stubborn about the situation, but honestly, if a process is so bureaucratic as this one, the job should eventually be done correctly.

My memory is fuzzy; did you tell us what you’ll be majoring in?

Hi Everybody,
I’ve been lurking on the Alabama threads for two weeks now. My daughter met with Ms. Forrest at our Il high school on 10/19, applied that night, I ordered the ACT and have heard nothing but UA, UA, UA since! The prospect of scholarships is terrific but, I am enjoying the customer service evertime I’ve called with questions. We had a hiccup with the ACT scores not showing as received for the last week or so. Finally, learned that the scores were in fact, in-house just not posted. We are now trying to firgure out when to visit. This has been a whirlwind last couple of weeks!

^^^

Can understand that whirlwind feeling!

UA has MANY kids from Illinois. I think it’s because many find it more reasonably priced then schools in their home state.

Try to visit on a Monday if possible to avoid too much missing of school. Many arrive on Sunday, visit on Monday, then leave Monday in the late afternoon/early eve (if flying).

There are many hotels in the area, but there is also a hotel on campus. [University of Alabama Lodging - Hotel in Tuscaloosa.](http://www.hotelcapstone.com/)

See my campus touring tips on this thread. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-alabama/789809-ua-campus-tour-tips-3-a.html
But, please note that I made some links mistakes in the first post (so some links aren’t there and the post will read strangely), but the added links are in post #3)

Thank you so much for all of the advice. This whole thing is amazing. Obviously, it is our first go around. We like other schools closer to home too. But, this Alabama turn of events is something we never saw coming! When I’ve mentioned it to family in recent days, lots of surprised faces and “Oh really?s” So, we’ll have to see how it all turns out. My husband doesn’t accept anything unless it is in black & white.

I am so thrilled to hear there are a lot of Illinois kids at Bama. Son really wants to settle in the midwest, so hopefully, he can make a lot of future friends and connections at Bama. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he could find the diversity he’s looking for “in his own backyard” and at a reasonable price?

And that is a good thing! Until you have the paper with the scholarship on it, a person can only wait. But, I’ve never heard of anyone who qualified and did the paper work by Dec 1st (applied to school and applied for scholarships) who didn’t get what the website states.

I guess because the website clearly suggests that these scholarships are not competitive, that’s some assurance

What will be your child’s major? Some departments award additional scholarships, so your child may get another one stacked on top.

Parent of an IL kid and I can’t say anything better than mom2college says. S loves it there. He did have to put up with some comtempt (why would you go there? you got into so many schools that are higher ranked, blah, blah) He felt so good about his choice that it didn’t bother him. He did whip out the whole, “Yeah, well I will graduate debt free and our football team will kick your team’s ***” thing more than once. Give it a try!

I still feel the OP shall send his official ACT score in. My concern is the Dec. 1 deadline for scholarship. I hate to see you miss the scholarship because your official score is not in on time. Just my humble opinion.

^^^

That is my thought, too.

I wouldn’t risk an $80k scholly over a $10 score. Again, my offer to pay the $10 myself stands PM your address, and I’ll send the $.
