Hi you all must remember me… I got waitlisted at BENTLEY… everyone told me not to worry i would get in… but i got waitlisted i am so depressed… i don’t think i have any chance anymore and ill have to end up going to a state school.

what should i do... is there anyway to be a sycophant to the school

What are your other schools? Have you sent in a letter saying how you are REALY interested? Don't think its the end of the world...its not...make the most of wherre you got in and you can transfer if Bently doesn't have room right now...maybe you can get in in the Spring semester...find out about that...take some deeps breathes, this to shall pass, I promise

Your subject header concerns me. Of course, it's disappointing getting waitlisted at a school where you assumed you'd be accepted. However, it really isn't anything to consider suicide over.

There are other options that are not the end of the world. Please think about these alternatives:

You may get off the waitlist. Your GC might be able to help with this. It also can help if you send Bently a letter telling of your strong interest, and letting them know of any recent achievements.

You could go to a state school and be very happy.

You could go to a state school and transfer to Bently or to another college.

You could take a year off, do something very impressive and reapply to Bently and get in.

Suicide is forever. Don't even consider it for something like this that is disappointing in the shortterm, but not a tragedy in the longterm.

First

is there anything else i can do.... what chance do waitlisted kids usually have?

Why do you feel that attending a state school is the end of your life? Remember, you make what you want with your life and if you just keep your head down and give up then it's your fault. So stop getting down on yourself, be opptimistic about whatever happens and know that you can get through it and will with hard work.

Hi, sycophant
as NSM suggests, talk to your GC and see if he or she can get any feedback at all on the decision, and also restate your interest in the school. A followup letter is also in order. I believe that some kids also send an additional rec or two. Finally, keeping your grades up is obviously very important at this point.

Last year, Bentley took 60 kids out of 800 from the waitlist - and they were likely ones that were pretty proactive about communicating with the college.

What other schools are you waiting on?

POST EDITED BY MODERATOR SKYHAWK. Please do not joke about committing suicide.

ohio mom... from where did you get that statistic?? Is it possible that the GC can get me off the waiting list... can i still appeal teh decision.

I've never heard of Bentley- where is it?

Sycophant I know why you were waitlisted. I also remember that you did not inform us of your D's and C's. The reason why you were waitlisted is fairly simple.

First your SAT score seems to be above Bentley's average by a good 80 -100 points. However, considering Bentley is a business school they would focus more on the math score. Your breakdown if I remember correctly was 680v and 600m. The 600 math is probably something that was taken into consideration.

Next your gpa can't be all that high. With one D and I think 5-6 C's or however, many you add your gpa I'm guessing is not above a 3.5 I don't recall you giving us your gpa so what exactly was your gpa (what it specifically said on your transcript or the exact number that was reported to the school)

Why don't you want to go to a state school? There are some very fine state schools out there that are at a totally different academic level then many private universities. For example, Michigan and Virginia and UNC Chapel Hill and UC Berkeley are MUCH better then the usual private college and that is a FACT.

What is it that you dread about state schools? If its your education you should rethink that one.

If it's the social aspect sure there will be more people from lower income families at state schools partly because the school is CHEAPER then a private college. People who can't afford to pay 35-40K a year for a private college will often send their kids to public schools because it is a fraction of the cost and in some cases offers superior academics.

Where were you accepted?

i was accepted at umass amherst rejected from babson and providence college waitlisted at bentley.... our grades are weighted so despite those low grads my weighte avg is still a solid B. And senior year I have all A's and B's... Moreover I took 2 AP classes had B's in both (including french 5 AP) Despite some low grades i had a grueling schedule and im colored and i have aspergers syndrome. once again how is it possible for the GC to take me off the waiting list..

If you are waitlisted and a school is your first choice and you definitely know that you'd attend if you get accepted, your GC can call the school and tell them that. If the school has space (as most colleges do), with most colleges, their first picks from the waitlist are students whom the colleges feel definitely will attend.

The exceptions to this are places like HPYS. Since they are most waitlisted students first choice, HPYS select from the waitlist the students who will best round out the class. Thus, if bassoon players or equestrians are needed, those students will come of the waitlist first.

I've heard of Bentley, a bunch of kids from my school got in (stats with around 1200/3.7 GPA's). You should let them know they are your first choice, like Northstarmom says, and also look into other schools. Where else did you apply or are waiting for?

Schools like Bentley wailist qualified students that don't have that extra "something". Usually this is means you haven't expressed enough interest in the school. Academically, you are good enough. Let them know that they're your first choice. If you haven't told them about your aspergers, that could make a difference.

My friend got waitlisted to Hamiliton and basically emailed them everyday asking questions and expressing interesting. They let him in next semester

You got a D and 6 C's and expected to get into Babson or Bentley? Hmmmm sorry man but thats your fault. It's not like you got unlucky or screwed over. The only way you could have made up for those grades is maybe a 1400+. You're well under their standards and if you had applied to Bryant, the 3rd "B" you would have been waitlisted or rejected there as well.

Try writing a letter to Bentley saying how much you love the school and its your dream to go there and you see yourself fititng in perfectly there. Schools love that and I think your chances of getting of the WL will go up significantly. It really does work.

Did you apply to any other schools?

I've heard UMass has a strong business program so just go there if nothing else comes through

Good luck man

sycophant,
I looked up the waitlist results on the online USNWR college rankings. Other have given good advice, I just want to add that sometimes these things don't play out until very late in the season, and that your final grades may be considered. Last year, somebody's kid didn't get into UChicago until July or August.

Its going to be hard because you will have to sort of do two things at once - move on being happy with a school that accepted you, and keep working at the Bentley wait list. My son's grades are also not what they should be, and he will know within a week if he is in the same boat. Anyway, keep paddling and don't give up. Your persistance may not work for this fall - but there's always transferring.

Wow 6's C's and a D? Where did that come from... mor elike 2 D's and 4 C's, but they were in honors classes. I got into northeastern.. I'll enroll there until I can get off the waitlist. :) I don't know i think it's a big higher on scale than bentley so i don't know why they accepted me... Maybe because 670 v 600 math, and i applide to criminal justice.
