I'm wanting it wanting it badly, just like anyone else.
Korean international, currently a junior being schooled in America.

GPA: somewhere in between 3.8-3.9 UW (no rank)
SAT: took the jan 26. Pretty confident it's somewhere between 2250-2350 after looking at the conjectured answers at CC.
SAT2: Math2c : 800 physics : 780 & going to take us history
APs: currently taking Calc AB / ap Stats / ap us history / + independent study on micro/macro

ECs:

-Varsity soccer. Starting player as a sophomore and Assistant coach as a Junior.

-President of youth department at church + some 300hr volunteer hours.

-President of Korean entertaintment and culture club.

-President of Soccer match analysis club.

-Ebay business (korean version, www.auction.co.kr) over summer making a profit of $12000 approx (By the way, I am not too sure how to prove this to the adcoms as it may sound bull if I just say "I did some business on internet")

-Penn summer course in korea where I was the only high schooler at. (Plus a nice recommandation from a Penn professor from the course)

-Volunteer work for mentally retarded people 2+hours every day. (one hour teaching mentally retarded kids english which took me a month to teach them A-Z, and another hour helping/supervising mentally retarded adults making paper bags and boxes <- thats how they make living)

-Currently managing a korean cellphone website with 22000+ officialy registered members (That means you need your korean social security number to be registered) with two other college kids.

chances me guys ! I want to know my cons and pros

I forgot to mention that my community service with the disabillties was only done over the summer for about 2 months which im going to do again over this summer. Plus Im a first board (captain) of school's varsity chess team
Also my courses next near is going to be a lighter load, taking just Calc BC, ap Euro history with required english course as well as regular chinese and chemistry and possibly some electives such as myth class. (I think the only APs left for me are AP chem, Ap bio and Ap foreign language such as french latin and spanish language none of which Im qualified to take nor interested in)

Maybe Im being too greedy but I think my activities are too bounded within my district, nothing at an international level or even national. Is this going to be a deduction factor?

I'd also be appreciated to be informed about what I should do over the summer other then the comm service and filling in the college application. Maybe some Internships for experience or Journalism?

Please be brutly honest if it's necessary B/C Wharton has been my life goal for the last three years and I cant afford to be rejected and HYMPS sucks compared to Penn

All your postings, especially the ones by the quakers, really really do me alot of help. Thanks alot guys

dude im in a crisis myself, i applied ED to the Jerome Fisher M&T program, i had national and international level awards and i still got deferred lol...im international too and i live in the US, moved an year ago....i know friends who have great stats and either get deferred or rejected....even those who dont ask for financial aid...with a school like Penn, it's really hard to predict who gets in and who doesnt

I think M&T and Huntsman are a bar up higher than Wharton. But Im very hopefull that you will get in. Good luck man I hope I see you in huntsman hall in the next few years

your chances increase significantly if you're international and you're NOT asking for financial aid. Assuming that's true for bjoon, then he has a pretty high chance of him getting in....i think it's the chinese and indian kids who are over-represented, im not sure though, thats what ive heard

Im kind of confused about your statistics here. wouldn't it be an advantage for me if Penn takes equivalant amount of students from korea as to the chinese and indian when the pool is roughly ten to twenty times smaller?

less denominator with approximately equal numerator means higher population proportion right?
Correct me if im wrong cuz Im only a highschooler trying out some stat skills learnt from class

It WOULD be, if the pool of applicants were actually 10 to 20x smaller. However I would wager that because Korea is both more developed and more "Ivy-obsessed" than China and India. So even though Korea is smaller, it is probably sending more applications to Ivies. Because so many qualified Koreans are applying, the competition among the "Korean student slots" is more intense.

HYMPS does not suck compared to U Penn. HYPS has an emphasis on Economics and M (Sloan) and U Penn (Wharton) has an emphasis on business in their respective programs. Any of these schools would offer an individual, a great opportunity to suceed and an awesome education. Good chances though.
