I have applied to a few schools this year and was getting very comfortable about going to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Though I felt that I was settling a bit at first, I got accepted into the honors program and was satisfied.

Then I remembered my application at Harvard. I've wanted to go to Harvard since I was 10 years old, and applied there because of the "what-if" way of thinking, not because I actually thought I would get in.

If I DO get in, I have some major choices to make. I just wish I could start making them sooner.

So do you think you could tell me how likely it is that I would get in?

Thanks.

I am a star at my tiny little high school. But that's not difficult. What i need to know is, do I have a chance at getting into harvard?

No mean comments?

I'm just asking here because no one else I know has any idea...

pretty good stats except for the chem and spanish sat 2 scores. extracurriculars are somewhat good, showing leadership, and community service sounds interesting. i think you have a shot

nice stats and extracurriculars, but not good enough for harvard..

after reading through the other harvard threads, i'm not really too confident about getting in. believe it or not, this makes me feel MUCH better about the future. i think i will continue to plan a future at the u of m.
thanks for your help!

Are you from Minnesota? If not, I would reconsider based on the weather, it's deadly here. ..... ;).

haha =]

yeah, i'm from nothern MN, so the weather in the twin cities is actually a bit milder than the weather here.
thanks for the advice though. non-minnesotans tend to have a rough time adjusitng to the winters.

yes i think because there is only 87 kids in your class, you do not have a great chance, only because i feel as if it is easier for a student with your stats in a class of 500 to get into Harvard.

Otherwise, you have as great of chance as any applicant. I feel like you should always hope, the future is completely undecided at this point. You never know.

I want to wish you luck!

Thing that I would comment is that you are from Minnesota and comparatively there will be fewer applicants from there than Massachusetts. You scores are definitely in the range of those that Yale will consider and from what I have been told those will be analyzed in your context. If everyone from Minnesota is landing 2400 and 36 then your will appear low. If typical high score as 30s and 2000s then you are going to be comparatively strong. Anyhow, your location I believe will be in your favor.

Your CS is very nice accomplishment but I would say that your ECs don't jump off the page at me.

I think that it will come down to your essays and what you have accomplished and utilized in the context of what was available to you.

Beyond that, it is anyones guess but I do think that you have a chance.

Do you have any outside awards?

there are 29,000 applicants. i dont think they're going to throw away your folder without looking at it. i think they'll give you're folder a good read b/c you seem like a great kid on paper, but who knows what they'll do. you cant get set on harvard, its just luck if anyone gets in.

outside awards...

i took 3rd place in a city-wide essay contest sponsored by a local television channel
i took second place in my district for the voice of democracy essay contest
national merit finalist

is this the kind of stuff you meant?

Do not worry. Period.

Ivy League Admissions are a total toss up. Last year, they received applications from 3,300 students who were first in their class and another 3,000 with perfect scores on their SATs. Guess how many were admitted of the total 27,000 applicants? About a thousand.

You CANNOT worry, because it is almost entirely up to chance. Wherever you end up, you will probably be happy.
