Im worried. chances for the engineering school?

Ok so i am kind of worried that i am not going to be accepted into UVA's engineering school even though i REALLY want to study engineering. Here are my stats, please comment!

Hispanic male
GPA- Weighted: 3.883 Unweighted: around 3.78
FULL IB Diploma Candidate
Northern VA High School (Edison)
SATs- Math=640 ; CR=630; W=660
total = 1930
Im not going to list all the things im involved in, but Im in Mathletes if thats any good (11-12th) NHS and vice president of latin club

Also, i sent my Subject tests scores but did alot worse than i expected. i did not prepare as much as i woulve liked and got these scores:
Math II: 550
Latin: 540
Physics: 600

I also think that my essays were good for UVA along with the engineering essay, so please take that into account.

Please let me know what you think!

hate to say it, but next-to-none chance.

ok thanks.
do u/anyone know if its possible to reapply after the 1st year? (assuming i get in)

Actually, I think you have a shot, being in-state. I worry a bit about your SAT II scores, though. Not for admissions purposes, but your math & physics scores aren't the greatest. Are you sure you're prepared adequately?

Yea hopefully i do have a shot.
I really did not prepare for either test at all. I decided to take math II last minute, which obviously turned out to be a bad decision. But i am doing very well in IB Math SL II this year and i believe i have a B in the test portion physics (could be better). However, i feel that i am motivated enough to do engineering. Im positive my scores would be much better if i took both tests again today; then again, a lot of people probably say that lol.

thanks for the response

Your SAT of 1980 keeps you in range. The GPA is a little bit low for Nova but your are a URM so I think you have a decent shot. Did you look at the Naviance graph to see how you looked against last years admits?

Yes i did actually. the average GPA accepted last year was 3.93 and the average SATs was 1888/2400 and 1260/1600.
However, i believe the GPA includes the grades AFTER senior year as well.
My gpa is 3.88, SATs: 1270/1600 and 1930/2400

I really hope i get accepted to UVA in the first place, and hopefully the Engineering program as well.

thanks for the replies, but just in case i dont get accepted into the Engineering school, does anyone if it is possible for a student to reapply to the engineering school as a sophomore?? would i have to just take the same classes and then reapply? or is this my only shot?

thanks

ok, you are in a position to do your own chances thread. The senior year GPA is really based on Mid Year Grades, so you will only get a half a years worth of boost. With full IB and strong grades I'm thinking 3.91 WGPA but I'm still hangin on the URM status.

When you look at the naviance scattergrams at the intersection of 1930 and 3.883 do you see green squares or red x's?

actually, i see a lot of green squares, haha.
there is only one red x in the area i am in on the graph, but other then that i see alot of green.
So i am guessing that is a positive thing...lol
i think my essays were good as well, i spent a lot of time on them. so hopefully will help as well

and i am guessing URM = minority?
thatd be a nice boost to get

uva doesn't consider SAT II's for admission? if true, then I'd say you have a decent shot.

URM = under represented minority. Try to ignore that Red X. I know its tough. I've seen scattergrams that have a green square on top of a red X, so obviously its more than just the numbers.

Hang in there.

URM is definitely a plus, but it will only get you so far. and UVA absolutely considers SAT II for admission, at least that is my understanding. Your SAT I is not going to knock the socks off the admissions deans, but it will get the job done. SAT II is significantly lacking however. GPA is ok, also nothing impressive, but once again, will probably get the job done. All things considered, i'de say you're at the 50/50 mark.
