My friend asked me to write a peer letter of recommendation for him a while ago and with the stress of my own applications (including one to Dartmouth!) I completely forgot. I know that probably makes me a horrible friend, but I am just wondering if it is a huge problem if I mail it on January 2 instead of today. Since it's a letter of rec, I've heard that it won't count negatively against his application if it's not postmarked on the right date (because it's not his fault), but since I am applying to Dartmouth, will it reflect negatively on me? I'm sure that it's fairly ridiculous to assume that a letter postmarked one day late will be opened and they will match the sender of said letter to the applicant pool...but I'm just worried!

Also, have any of yall written these letters? What did you say?

Don't worry about sending it in late. As long as you do it as soon as possible, it won't really matter. And when you write it, you should write about your relationship with the person you're writing it for, what's unique about them, and why they're a good person. Once you get started it shouldn't be that hard.

Son wrote one for a friend who is applying--
Post offices will be closed on January 2nd. Is there any way you could email a copy to admissions with a note saying the signed hard copy will be in the mail ASAP? It sounds like a bit much, but at least they'd know you tried.
