Hello! I'm a first year transfer student and I'd like to pose a general question to everyone. How important is physical appearance to sororities? And why? I regret not rushing fall quarter but sometimes when I think about it, I don't even think I'd fit in because I'm always in jeans and a hoodie almost everyday. Plus I save the make up for Fridays! Any kind of response (unless its mean and stereotypical) would be nice!

Well… I’ve been in a sorority for over two years, and I haven’t noticed this being a problem at UCSD. If you were to go to Ole Miss or Bama or another SEC school - yeah, sweats and uggs aren’t acceptable. UCSD sororities and recruitment in general is very laid back. I’ve never felt pressured to dress up or wear make up to school from my sorority, hahaha, and I’ve never heard of that being an issue with my friends in other chapters.
One thing I will add is that most sororities (if not all?) have formal meetings at least once a month, which requires you to dress in appropriate clothing - such as a dress, skirt, nice pants, heels, etc. Not during the day, but just when you go to meeting itself.

The most important thing is that if/when you go through recruitment, base your choices off where you feel the most comfortable and which girls you mesh the best with.

Completely agree with ucsandiego915! Although I’m a first year this year and was just initiated a few weeks ago, I felt very comfortable and never any pressure to do anything I didn’t want to do–including changing my image.

I didn’t mean to push those stereotypes on to the different sororities its just that they seem so…like pretty haha
