Okay, full specs: I graduated high school and instead of attending in the fall I took it off and started in the spring. That’s really it, that’s why I’m a bit puzzled I’m receiving an email like this.

If you didn’t explain in your application, they would ask. They ask a lot if they feel it’s vague. And since it was the semester right after high school, maybe they think you flunked out somewhere. Who knows? The thing is no one’s answer would really address the matter if that’s what they were looking for, while a quick input to national student clearinghouse would. Who knows…
You’re probably right that they just want to see if there is more meaning behind my break than I put on my application.
