i was thinkin about goin to law school to become a immigration lawyer..By living in miami and goin to school there would that be a good choice of law... also do anyone know is there a need for immigration lawyers and is the salary good

Take a look in the Miami Yellow pages you can see the pages and pages of immigration lawyers. But don’t let that stop you there is always competition!! :)

Immigration law in general is a commodity business. There are firms that specilize in it, with paralegals and adjunct staff doing most of the work. The federal forms are a PIA, but pretty standard. It doesn’t take a top tier lawyer to do the work, nor will anyone pay top tier prices for it, not even corporations. Then of course, the vast majority of immigrants – your potential clients – are extremely poor…

There are LOTS of wealthy immigrants and lots of employers who sponsor employees.

From what I can figure out, the best asset an immigration attorney can have is speaking a couple of languages fluently. A lawyer I know is apparently the only immigration attorney in metro-NY who speaks, reads and writes the language of his ancestors. The consulate for the nation where that language is spoken refers everyone who calls with an immigration question to him.
