Immunizations?

Out of curiosity, which vaccinations are necessary and which are optional? Where can I definitively find info on the immunization stuff I need outside of the “Instructions for Appointees” booklet?

I have no clue, but I hope you can find out...I am kind of curious myself!

well, I don't know if you saw this and just want more information, but it does say right on the form in the booklet that some are optional (it says optional above where you would write if you got it).

I do know from last year with daughter that if any shots are missing they will take care of them there. But from what I can remember it's just the standard shots .Just make sure they were all up to date.

I'll have to check that USAFA10S. I'm all doped up since I got my wisdom teeth out today. It's been a strange afternoon.

on the discussion of wisdom teeth, how important is this?
my parents are against me getting my wisdom teeth pulled out, and i read in the booklet that not getting this done can affect being PQ'd
any advice on this?

Hehe wisdom teeth, one of the gifts bestowed upon me at birth was the absence of any wisdom teeth at all so no pain for me... ;)

But I they really just want them out for two reasons, one to save time and hassle on their part, because it would be there dime to have them removed as well as the fact that you would miss class time to have the procedure which is always a hassle... Two, basically to insure that you wont have any problems with them during Basic I am sure...

Just a matter of opinion not quoted from a source but I hope it helps... ;)

Well, this afternoon kinda sucked and I've heard that it can be pretty bad for some people. I just felt that I would rather get it done here at home while cadre aren't yelling at me and I'm caught up in Academy life. Anything that will make it easier there is fine by me. ;)

It wouldn't be done here in Basic. It would most likely be done your 3 dig year if you don't have it done beforehand.

NYCadet: i went to my oral surgeon a few days ago to talk about this. since my wisdom teeth havent given me problems, he said it's up to me.. i figured i'd go ahead and get them taken out the day after graduation. reasons: i dont wanna miss class time at the AFA. i'm very confident in the doctor, i know him very well. and lastly: i dont wanna get it done when im home on leave in the summer, that'd ruin everything. so, just get em taken out before you go :) it'd save everyone alot of trouble

hehe! af16, catching onto the af's "inclosed"?
just teasing you...'twas too good ;)

I really was wondering who would make the connection, you are more clever than I thought... ;) Very nice indeed :)

I had all 4 of mine pulled this year. The surgery was a breeze. In fact, I don't remember anything between getting an IV and walking out of the hospital. Missing class and not being able to easily go to a supermarket for some good food is a bit of a drawback.

I can't really comment on complications, because I did not have any.

If you're looking for "definite info" give the clinic a call. If you can't find the number anywhere in the packet, call your admissions counselor s/he'll give it to you.

Rest assured you'll get everything you need that day... gosh I hated those needles.

af16...what's that supposed to mean?!!! :D

thanks for your help everyone, i'll have to go and make an appointment to my dentist

Just a point of reference: last year we called the Clinic as my son had Chicken Pox prior to that shot becoming "standard." Too bad -- get the shot anyway or he'll receive it on Inprocessing Day.

He took EVERY shot we couldn't proove, and he STILL ended up getting one shot that day. (Apparently what we had done wasn't the correct "version" of something.)

If it's convenient or available low-cost -- get it all done now.

Same here rgstill. I had to get another shot. Since I only had the TD shot, they gave me the TDaP. Almost had two. Glad, because my arm was sore after that!

I got 6 shots on I-day, and I was current on all of them. Just don't be like the poor thing in front of me who started crying and then passed out.

It clearly states in this year's packet to get the Dtap before coming. I'm sure most haven't had it since age 6 or 8. The American Academy of Pediatrics is now recommending the Dtap booster at age 12 instead of the Adult "Td" because we are seeing outbreaks of Pertussis again....(also known as Whooping Cough).
