Impact of Budget Crisis on North Carolina Public Colleges

The State of North Carolina has been notoriously supportive of their public colleges and universities. What will be the impact of the current budget crisis on their public colleges? I already see recent evidence of raising tuition, but the increase will be going to the State and not the colleges. What other trends and cuts will we see?

UNC-CH (and perhaps some other NC publics) has given generous FA to OOS students (unlike most other publics), so I wonder if that will be one of the cut-backs.

DS got his graduate degree at a NC public conservatory. We made a generous donation last year and will make another this year…with specific usage notations attached to it. The types of things we want to support are the things that are being cut as they are viewed as “non-essential”.

So if they cut the program you specified your donation to go to - do they return it?

They won’t cut the program!! I’m sending you a PM.

I would NOT want the money returned…but since it was sent with a specific purpose (and with the approval of the development office prior to being sent), I would expect that they would ask me what my preference for its use would be.
