Impact of economic crisis?

I'm sure it's too early to tell and the best we'll have are predictions and anecdotal data, but what have people heard about the efffect of the recent stock market drop on college admissions?

The only factoid I can add right now is that one of the top private schools in Manhattan has aleady had three immediate dropouts. That's out of 500 students. Less than 1% but still impressive in that you'd think that these parents would have paid the tuition by August, or at least had the cash available in the checking account. Not sure what that means in terms of how many don't come back next September.

And of course, we can't predict how the economy will be next summer anyway.

Those parents may have had the cash but now need to conserve resources for other needs- were you referring to HS or college?

I think it will be like everything else, for some devastating, to others annoying, others not bothered. The issue is that the magnitude of these groups is unknown. But is is also how it will hit schools, put pressure on loan funds which are not there but needed more than every, and in fact may force schools that are on the financial margin to close. That is the problem with this, it affects so many and ripples through everything.
