what if my SAT, and EC are just the average or even below but my essay, gpa, and interview are outstanding? would this stand out to the admissions officers?

i think my essay just knocks people out. although i dont have a unique EC, i certainly think that my essay is truly unique.

I think mine is unique... its about growing up on a farm and my passion for music but I don't really know what to think about it. A few people have read it and said they liked it but I dunno...

I'm no expert but I think that your essay counts more for the admissions process at Brown than it does at other places. Scores are just numbers to them -- they of course mean something, but in the long run - my regional representative kept saying how much personality is the biggest factor -- personality and talent (not in the sense of musical instrument and performance, but in ur natural abilities etc. etc.) -- They don't see personality in ur SAT scores, but instead, in ur essay. So show what you want them to see of you, that's why I recommend staying away from overly depressing essays -- it becomes a little repetitive I'm sure for admissions officers after reading the 8322nd "my pet died today..." essay -- It's one thing to talk about it, it's another thing to show YOURSELF through your essay - this is more true for Brown than I think most places, or any other Ivy for that matter.... Hope that helps. Good luck!

yeah thanks for your response
i seriously hope that i get in. i showed my EC to my interviewer and she didnt say anything impressive about it. but when i showed her my essay, it knocked her out. i hope this happens to the admissions officers too.

No matter how great an essay is, the colleges all know that it is quite possible that the essay has been written by somebody else. Academics > big time over essays due to this. It is unfortunate that some get in with essays written by others, and many of us hard workers get a raw deal, but the essay cant count so much as we think it does.
