Impact of Legacy on Cornell Application

I was just wondering how much legacy can carry me when applying to Cornell through the early action program. My father attended Cornell and so did his sister/ my aunt. On my mothers side, her father attended Cornell and so did her brother/ my uncle. I wonder if that is considered a two generation legacy even if the generations are on different sides of my family tree. Besides legacy, I have about a 98-99 average through my first two years of HS. I’m expecting to get around a 2000-2100 on the SAT and around a 32-34 on the ACT. I also plan on taking the SATII Chem and Math. I expect to score around low 700s and high 600s. I participate in a few clubs which includes the leadership program and some community service. I also captain the swim team and play two other sports at the varsity level. How are my chances of getting in to Cornell University through ED and/or RD?

I believe legacy counts quite a bit at Cornell, as long as you have good stats. I would try to get your SAT scores over 2100.

Legacy is helpful for Cornell ONLY if you apply ED. Also, fit for the particular school/college/major is extremely important.

One of the great benefits of legacy is being able to write a very convincing “Why Cornell” essay.
