I just found out I got a 2390 on the May SAT - 800 CR, 800 M, 790 W with 80 on the MC and...an 8 on the essay. Don't get me wrong, I am ECSTATIC about my overall score, but I can't help but be a little disappointed about the essay. I've read posts from other students who have scored much lower overall, but got higher essay scores than me. I've heard that people score higher on the essay if they use thesaurus-y words and fill the 2 pages...which irks me a bit because that's exactly what you're NOT supposed to do in a normal essay for school. I consider myself to be a pretty strong writer, but I'm not good at writing under time constraints. Will colleges think I am a poorer writer because of this essay score? I will (hopefully) have great teacher recs, essays, and AP Lang scores to offset this, but will I be at a disadvantage compared to kids who wrote "better" essays? I will be applyling to some top schools, including several ivies. Again, I am happy about my score and am not trying to complain - I'm just disappointed. I got an 8 last time too, and I was sure I had written a better essay this time around. Guess not.

Don’t worry about it. Colleges know the SAT essay format sucks, and they won’t hold you to it. Instead, they expect you to show how good of a writer you are in your personal statement and your supplements.
Congrats on your 2390!

omg… another one of these xD
