impact of W's

as a student at SMC planning on transferring to a UC... how many W's are okay on ur transcript and how many will hurt? I will have 2 W's prior to applying for schools.. will that be a big deal? or nothing to worry about? thanks.

there have been stories on this forum of people with 8+ Ws getting accepted to top schools. don't trip. you've got nothing to worry about.

use the search function on the forum if you want more info.

This issue was addressed in this thread:

The UCLA admissions rep who comes to our CC has answered this issue also. She said that the only thing they MIGHT consider is if you keep receiving W's in courses that are major pre-reqs. 2 W's are nothing to lose sleep over, don't even stress about it.

Each W deducts your chance of admission by %.13

Therefore a couple W's are not too big of a deal.

It depends on the individual circumstance. I had about 21 W's on my record (but I attended cc at two separate times with a gap of about 8 years between - on my return to cc I actually went to classes and didn't have another W on my record). I had an overall upward grade trend (once I returned to cc I had a 3.9 GPA for my new coursework and a cumulative GPA of 3.4). I was accepted to UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSC and some privates back east.
