Impacted major and GE's

I have been admitted into revelle college but as an undeclared major. I want to do computer science/engineering and was wondering how difficult it would be to get my major. I was also wondering if GE's could be used towards getting a minor or second major.

Any help would be great and thank you.

No one can really tell you how difficult it will be to get into CSE. It’s a competitive process, and you have to take certain courses before you can apply (see the website for a list). I believe students are ranked by GPA in the prerequisite courses and then admitted until all of the spots are filled. But there’s no guarantee on how many spots there will be, and what other competition you will have.

In general, yes, GEs can be used towards a minor or second major if they meet the requirements. However, check to see if your college has any rules about this. My college had an overlap rule about how many courses could be used for both GE and major requirements. I don’t think Revelle has that rule, but double check on that. I believe only the Area of Focus is not allowed to overlap with degree requirements, but don’t take my word for it.

@baktrax thanks for the help. Could you also tell me how revelle is as a college and how are the students who go there.I.e are they fun or extremely studious and how is the colleges location. Thanks again.

The students at Revelle are pretty much the same as the students at UCSD. There’s no particular differences in the type of students that go to each college, and if you find that you don’t like any particular student, it’s not like you’re restricted to your college for who to make friends with.

The location isn’t fantastic, but people get used to it. You can look on a map to see where it is. It’s sort of off in the corner. The only real bad part about the location is that if you want to be a CS major, a lot of the CS computer labs are in Warren, which is on the other side of campus. Every location is going to have its pros and cons though, and there’s always a shuttle that can take you around campus if you don’t want to walk. You’ll get used to walking around campus pretty quickly though, and you can get a bike if you want to.

@baktrax thanks for the help
