Hi ! I'm a senior in high school and am currently applying for freshmen year at the UC schools. For UCSD I am planning to major in biology, but am nervous at whether I can actually get accepted with the major (since it's very popular).

Could I get accepted into UCSD as undeclared (instead of the major I chose), or will I be rejected from the school altogether ?

They first accept you into the university and then the major so applying as a biology major will not affect your chances of getting in. So if they accept you for the university by not for the major, you will be admitted as undeclared.

Not sure if you’ve already submitted the application but last year I didn’t believe I would get into my impacted major too but I chose that (physiology and neuroscience) as my first choice. As long as I remember you can also choose the alternate major, which if you wanna play safe then I would recommend choosing a non-impacted major that you are interested.
For me, I just feel like applying as undeclared does not do anything to help you get in nor hurt you. Actually as long as I know, it’s still hard to apply into one of the majors within Bio Dep. once you are already an undeclared UCSD student. So long story short, if I could go back and complete my college app again, I would still put my impacted major as my first choice.

That’s not playing it safe because that doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t matter if you put a impacted or non-impacted major down. It does not change your chances of getting accepted into the university.
