Is it “easier” to get into CAL if you pick a non-impacted major. I know that any engineering major will be harder to get into…but what bout majors at L&S? Like for instance would it be easier to get in if you applied as a"studies" major(african-american studies, religious studies, chicano studies…), compared to like a history, poli sci, International Relations major? Any info would be greatly appreciated

the answer is no

Supposedly, all L&S applicants are treated equally. I think the website says that they don't know what major the applicant is applying under to ensure fairness between all majors.

What about the College of Chemistry?

i dont know if it's easier to get into...but i know there are extra prerequisites to get into the college of chemistry.

Ok thanks for the comments guys. Hmm i wonder what the real answer is though haha

no, it doesn't matter what you select for L&S intended major......it's only so the school has a good idea how many freshmen are going to enroll in which classes. For example, if there are 1000 intended MCB admits, then chances are, there are going to be AT LEAST 1000 people enrolling in Chem 1A come fall.

The major DOES NOT MATTER. The only thing that matters is the school you pick.

College of Engineering may admit you, but if EECS is full, they will let you pick any other CoE major. I had 4 -5 friends who got that.

DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE THAT I MADE. I applied for Materials Science Engineering which is VERY close to EECS, but I really wanted EECS. I was afraid that I would get denied but when I saw my friends get the offer to choose another major when EECS was filled, hey I regretted it.

According to a highly reputed college prep center, I was told that you should pick your alternate majors (N/A for UCB, but for other UCs) on the application at a different shcool. IF you choose engineering for your primary major, choose an L&S major for y our secondary. Admissions are solely based on schools not on major.

College Board busted me in 2004 if you remember that major AP crackdown for Class of 04 HSers. But yea, I didn't talk to main admissions office at Cal, I talked to admissions at CoE. Haha I'm a badass now =P. Nah, it was nothing major I'm still a good boy =)

what is MCB?

Ok i found out that it was Molecular Cell Biology
