Impacted Majors

Is Biology an impacted major at ucsd? Does anyone know where i can find a list of all the impacted majors at UCSD?

I talked to the Bio department during Admit day and they said it wasn`t impacted for this coming year. There was a website with a list of all the impacted majors for fall 2006, but I forgot what it was. Sorry !

Impacted Majors

Summary: Find out about impacted majors at UCSD.

Freshmen and transfer students, you may find that your preferred major is impacted or requires pre-major status.

An impacted major is one that is limiting enrollment. The lists below show impacted majors for freshmen and transfer students. (These are also listed in the General Catalog and will be noted in the UCSD admission letter to new students.)

Impacted majors for freshmen:

Bioengineering
Bioengineering: Biotechnology
Computer Engineering (within the Computer Science and Engineering Department)
Computer Engineering (within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department)
Computer Science
If you are an incoming freshman applying to one of these majors, you must also select an alternate major that is not impacted on your UC application. These decisions will not affect your admission to UCSD, and you could be admitted into either major.

Impacted majors for transfer students:

Engineering majors within the Jacobs School of Engineering

Effective Fall Quarter 2006, the Jacobs School of Engineering reviews transfer applicants to all impacted and open majors according to completion of engineering major preparation courses. For details, see the General Catalog.

If you are a transfer student applying to one of these majors, you must also select an alternate major that is not impacted on your UC application. These decisions will not affect your admission to UCSD, and you could be admitted into either major. You will be notified in writing of the decision after you receive your letter of admission to UCSD.

it sounds like impacted majors only affect freshman decisions. im wondering if this is truly the case? im interested in bioengineering, and im currently undeclared. is it possible that i could get in bioe in my sophomore year?

Because there is a high demand for bioengineering at UCSD (since it is ranked 2nd in the nation), there will be slim chances of transferring in. I read a post somewhere in CC about a person calling UCSD finding out it is impossible to transfer into bioengineering there. I would recommend calling them to get that verified. Good luck.

does anyone know why majors become impacted? Currently, 4% of the student body is Comp Sci, while 18% is Bio.

There are limited spaces in impacted majors. Schools can only enroll a certain amount of students into impacted majors. As for bio, there are many majors that fall under "biological sciences" so there is more room. Good luck in admissions.

uh yea its impossible..they said it during the admit day and when i emailed them..you cant transfer in once you're admitted.
