Impeach Bush Now!

Concerning basis of impeachment (Meaning of High Crimes and Misdemeanors) under Article II section 4:

"Abuse of power and serious misconduct in office fit this category."

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0764613.html

Abuse of Power huh? Where did I see that? Uhm...

aspiring_1010

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Lincoln take that initiative because he had the power of executive order? I agree with you, however I must add even if a president had the power of executive order, this benefit does not imply any justification or rightdoing. I guess it depends on the situation. Didn't Jefferson bypass reps approval, when he purchased Lousiana?

^ Yes, and he stole funds to pay for it. According to the Const, Congress must allot the funds for war.

-Also, Jefferson engaged troops in war on the African coast and bypassed Congress' power of the purse.

in Algeria right ?

I'm referring to the Tripolitan War. So, yes.

Impeach Bush and start practicing living under Islamic law. How many of you like wearing your Sleeping Bag to School?
1.) Let's start with Guantanamo Bay.
Detain indefinitely suspected individuals without a trial or explanation, that's unconstitutional.
Yeah, these individuals were playing golf in their backyard and CIA kidnapped them just for fun.

the biaaatches !!

All criminals are subject to trial under U.S. law be it if they are citizens or not. The purpose of a trial is to get the basis of whether an individual is guilty or not according to the accusation set forth. How are we to know that maybe one detainee out of the 300 or so is innocent? Abhi how would you like to be that individual with no voice? If I was in Iraq and shining a weapon does that imply that the U.S. has a right to detain me? Haven't you heard of the "wrong place wrong time notion?" I'm not stating that the detainees were innocent but I would be lying just like our Monkey in abruptly stating they are not. We cannot make an assumption without a trial the basis of justice and ensurity!

you're a member of greenpeace aren't you ?

I'm not an member of anything. And I set my arguments not on the basis of my personal political affiliation but rather on our America ideal of justice and truth.

I think he works for Amnesty, I also do :D Thank god, I am not posting this under my real name or they would have thrown me out.

We must stop fooling ourselves about what we are witnessing. When Islamic terrorists are killing hundreds ever day, the best bet would be to trust Bush. You can't wait for a trial, when the detainee could be holding sensitive information that could save hundred lives.

i'll bet you nicked that from some movie...

"You can't wait for a trial, when the detainee could be holding sensitive information that could save hundred lives."

Listen to yourself. For one, the point of a trial is to keep the detainee if accused and found guilty in the hands of American military officials permanently. Whats the purpose of keeping an innocent individual without any credible information or lack there at GB? What would be the point of interogating such an individual we just detained because he was in the same area as the crime yet lacks info and is most importantly innocent?

innocent ??
These guys are picked up because they are accused terrorists. The guys who are sent there aren't mormons for crying out loud.

Really? Was there a trial conducted that you know about that I don't? How can you make such a premature assumption from the comfort of your own home.

@abhi

Wow, many of you people in this thread are like the current administration completely disregarding habeas corpus and the constitution. If you can't understand the values the founding fathers created this country on then you don't deserve to discuss who receives what treatment.

"Impeach Bush and start practicing living under Islamic law. How many of you like wearing your Sleeping Bag to School? "

Let me guess: your next favorite site is littlegreenfootballs.com ? So holding somebody accountable for their actions will result in a theocracy? Hmmm...interesting points.

For an Indian (most likely 2nd generation?) you are one of the most xenophobic people I have ever met. Although, this is very typical of many Indians, many are very wary of Muslims(read:bigoted), there are exceptions, but you are obviously not.

If you don't appreciate the values of a democracy then get out of here/don't come here and go to/stay at whatever monarchical nation you want. Try to get a great education there.

Hey abhi, here's a quick US history question:

What of the following values are this country not based on?

a. life
b. liberty
c. pursuit of happiness
d. justice
e. holding people with no evidence with no court trial set.

Assuming you're dark-skinned, go to an airport yelling "I hate America!!!". Congratulations on successfully figuring out how to be sent to Cuba for the rest of your life.

Back to the original topic, I am all for getting rid of this current administration, but impeaching Bush will not do anything. There are plenty of cold-hearted monsters to take his place/stay in US politics (John Bolton, Robert Gates, Cheney, etc.). Belevee it or not, Bush is the lesser of the evils compared to those who would gain more influence after being removed from the presidency.

I hope you do not declare your major as politics. I do not think college can enlighten people with your line of thinking but good luck.

What's ensurity? And how do trials form the basis for it?

I forgot who said this quote but it was probably a founding father: "I would rather let 100 guilty men go free than imprison one innocent man". How would you like to be one of the innocent people captured?
