Imperfect

Well, I haven't had an awkward "So... what did you get on your SATs?" conversation since freshman year so I can't actually remember exact scores and examples, but suffice it to say, there are plenty of people at Yale with (far) less than perfect SATs and/or ECs.

Um... I really hope I get in SCEA because I took the SAT II today and totally BOMBED. I was planning to send them in if I got deferred, but I don't really want Yale to see a 500 next to my 700s and 800s for SAT Reasoning. I left like 35-50 blank. Ran out of time. Now THAT's imperfect.

You what's imperfect?

Complaining about imperfection. =]

mistofthekane, what SAT II did you take?
i took chem today and am planning to send those in (depending on how i did) if i get deferred too lol

I took MATH. OHHHMYGOD. The other two went fine... but Math could kill everything. UGH UGH UGH. MUST GET INTO YALE.

^I feel that's a dangerous attitude.

lol mistofthekane, I took the Math II test and literally skipped 49 questions. While I didn't get the 700+ I was going for, I did get a 620 which I didn't think was COMPLETELY horrible. Obviously its not great, but it was a lot better than the 500 I was expecting.

As for the chances that an "imperfect" applicant gets accepted, I certainly hope those chances are high because in no way do I match up to many of the people here... :/

Good luck to everyone, though! :)

Thanks, NJBKitty, though I hope you actually skipped a lot less than 49.

Hopefully I won't have to worry about my horrendous scores.

Whoa, I don't know what I was thinking when I typed that... I meant 24 xD.... Basically my point was that I skipped almost half the test and did alright.

But if I DID happen to skip 49 questions and managed to pull of a 620... now that would be something, wouldn't it? Answer 1 question and get an ok score... Life would be so much easier -_-

Yeah I was really inspired... and now my hopes are crushed. JK!

Hm, well in that case... Yes, I skipped 49 questions and got a 620!!!

... Feel better? :/

You know what's weird, after posting insanely on these forums a lot for the last couple weeks, I feel like we're all almost anonymous friends or something :D. I hope we get to go to Yale together!

Sorry for that irrelevant comment. On imperfection.. Yale attendees will tell you that no applicant is perfect. Even the ones who've taken trips to Uganda - some are truly inspiring applicants, but some are people who go there, pass out some food, and then come home, write a heartwrending essay about it, and then forget about it. They like to see passion - and even if you've got a B here or there or a slightly lower SAT score, the officials want to see that you've got something you love to do, and you do it with all your heart.

As for URMs.. I think it just gives your application an extra reading or two. No gimme's or passes, just an extra consideration. Not sure if I agree with the principles behind AA or not (I'm Indian (not native american, like Indian from India)) but I don't think it boosts you a lot.. just gives your app a little extra time, maybe.

^ agreed. It's just so intimidating to try to display your passion on paper...

And to others: I took the math 2 subject test today also... I've actually never taken an SAT class or a single practice test (I must be one of the only ones on this forum...) so I really have no idea what my test will translate to as a score... I ended up pretty crunched for time, but I'm just hoping for something over 700 at this point.

One of my favorite things about Yale (and other Ivies) is that they really do admit people based on character and not scores/GPA. If you can truly display to admissions officers how passionate you are about something, you can get in without having the best GPA or highest rank or whatever. Love it :)
