Imperial College vs GaTech, UMich,UIUC and UTexas

How does Imperial College compare to GaTech, UMich,UIUC and UTexas ?

Maybe I am naive but I personally have never heard of Imperial College so i think comparing it to some of the top 10 schools is the country, its not very close

imperial college in england? i heard of that school because one of my friend went there.

if its ranking is any indication of its academic quality, prestige, what-not, ... (ranked right below oxford and cambridge)

then isn't that school like ivy-league of england?

although honestly speaking, if you are looking to get a job in the US in the end, i wouldn't expect many employers to have heard of that school...

if some of the employers i met don't know what JPL is, a NASA/caltech research center in their own country (two of them being #2 AEROSPACE company managers), i really wouldn't expect them to know about colleges overseas.

Imperial College> GaTech,> UMich, >UIUC> UTexas > Imperial College.

You are asking if anyone can make a comparison on 5 colleges. The permutations are enormous. And you are asking if someone has some knowledge or attendance of all 5 or a combination of the 5.

Any answer would be rather subjective. The concern is whether your qualifications would get you admitted to just one of the 5.

Good Luck

Wow see I am just some dumb ignorant American!

I applied to all the schools afore mentioned and I was wondering if Imperial is as recognized in the US. From what I have learnt about schools in the US, they are suitable for well-rounded students. Well I'm not exactly a renaissance man; I not interested in taking classes that are not exactly related to my major (Mechanical Engineering). Like xijs rightly said Imperial comes after Oxbridge in the rankings but I think coming to the US would be a great cultural experience for me. As a Nigerian I also think there are more job oppurtunities in the US. Do you think I'd be better off going to Imperial or Georgia Tech, or any of the other schools mentioned?

If you want to work in the US, go to a school in the US - and do well in it. Most employers will probably not know anything about Imperial, therefore, if your goal is to work here - you would have a greater benefit by going to school here. Although, keep in mind that many foreign students come here to study, and bc of govt. restrictions, it is harder for companies to employ many foreign students. This means you will need to do pretty well in school in order to be offered employment here when you finish. Unless, of course, you have dual citizenship or something.
