Imperial College

I'm from Bangalore...its in South India.

I'll search the online edition and see if they've put it up there.

Bangalore is like the new Silicon valley. Very cool.

Really sorry psmyth...I just searched the online edition of the Education Times of TOI and couldn't find the article.

But, in short it was an article about this student who did a 12-month MBA from LSE and it goes on to describe abt education at LSE.

No problem, Thank you for trying. I'm going to hit the sack. It is like 2am over here. Keep me posted when you figure out what you are going to do.

I'm in a similar dilemma. UCL (bout £3k/yr)- i took imperial as my insurance, or Princeton (bout £8-9k/yr). But I'd be doing medicine in UCL too. Its a difficult decision, if you think the extra opportunities offered abroad are worth the extra cost.. it really depends if you'll be able to make the most of them

Imperial's awesome for medicine Featherfare. My mom was in UK for a few years doing her MRCP or something and she couldn't believe how good it is for medicine. Its #4 in the worldfor Biomedicine too.

I know how good it is for medicine. UCL leads it though and has often done so (e.g. as shown by the recent but somewhat unreliable guardian rankings http://browse.guardian.co.uk/education?SearchBySubject=false&FirstRow=0&SortOrderDirection=&SortOrderColumn=GuardianTeachingScore&Subject=Medicine&Tariff=6&Go=Submit )

The main difference is that Imperial is generally better at sciences and has a marginally greater reputation. But UCL is affiliated with better hospitals and because of its artsiness offers a much better social scene. Hence my choice. Imperial is great though, I loved their (relatively new) campus buildings

I'm really not well-versed with Univs in the UK, so I tend to look at the THES rankings for reference. So, IC is rated #4 in the world for Biomedicine.

Also, here are some extracts I found, which made me apply to IC:

[quote]
Imperial's research income is among the largest in the UK – £167.2 million for 2002–03. This includes Research Council grants, grants from charities and a larger sum from industry than any other British university. It also received the highest amount of total research income out of all the UK universities in 2003, at £153 million.

Imperial College graduates have the highest average starting salaries among British graduates. According to The Sunday Times 2004 table, the average starting salary for Imperial graduates was £24,247.

I don't know, but I got an impression IC is awesomely good for the sciences and medicine.

But, yes....I just checked some photos of UCL campus, and seems gorgeous.

Imperial is undoubtably very good in the sciences. Probably the best to be found in the UK (bar oxbridge for certain subjects). But that doesn't really apply to medicine cos it's not strictly a science.

I don't put too much faith in any rankings to be honest. I mainly based my decision on what I heard from current students at both colleges and from my visits.

oh...sorry then. I really have no idea of UK Univs...

Theres nothing to apologise for lol. You actually appear to know quite a bit compared to some

Ok....I have a major question.

Aren't IC and LSE part of the same university? (UL)

So will going to IC make it easier for me to goto LSE for MBA?

when did u apply to Imperial?? cause I applied to Imperial through UCAS as well

I applied in October, KING IS HERE.

I heard from them on May 8th...but the e-mail had some weird title ("UG Finance bursaries") so never actually bothered opening it till today morning...Then I checked my UCAS and showed that I had been accepted at IC.

did u get a conditional or an unconditional offer...

I applied to Imperial April 18th. really late I know, but it took them nearly 6th months to make a decision on ur app... usualy UK schools usualy finish in a 1-2 months...

University of London is just a label, there isnt really that much of a connection between the colleges. It's not like the different colleges in oxbridge. So going to one won't hav much of an effect on gettin into another for grad school, unless you individually make some connections while you're in London.

But the good UoL colleges: UCL, Imperial, LSE and King's do recognise each other as the best universities in the UK together with oxbridge so i guess in a way that would be beneficial

KING IS HERE,
1.) When I called them up and asked in October last year, they said its useless applying. Apparently, they've never accepted a CBSE student from India ever...I was like 'what the eff' and hence if u might recall I've posted multple time before saying how IC needs 12yrs schooling. Even my cousin, at Princton now, applied and got the rejection within 1week and they said the 12yrs bull-****. So, i'm obviously excited. Hence, the delay in my decision too.

2.) I got a conditional offer.
