implications of heavily lopsided scores?

I got a 2240 on the May SAT, but my scores were very lopsided. 800 CR, 780 W, 660 M. I'm pretty sure I'm going to retake in the fall, but if I were to just leave my scores as is...how badly would the 660 in math affect me? Any advice is also welcome. I'm very happy with my scores but also a little perplexed.

Many schools consider CR and Math more than they consider Writing, so you’d have 1460/1600 for those schools.

Also, look at the schools where you’re applying. Your total SAT score could be in the normal range for admitted students, maybe even higher than that, but your Math score may be less than your peers. For example, Harvard reports their middle 50% to have SAT scores from 2100 - 2390. But their Math scores are from 700-790, so you’re a bit lower than they want in that aspect.

Well another alternative is to take SAT Subject tests in math and score 750+ to make up for the 660. But for top schools, admissions is usually a crapshoot. SAT are only to get your foot in the door. After that it’s generally about EC’s and Hooks.

It is more about hooks though. Either: be a URM, play a sport, be rich, or be famous (usually includes being rich)
