Importance of 4th Year Foreign Language

A friend of mine is thinking of dropping IB SL French 4 in favor of AP Physics, but he's worried it'll hurt his chances at getting into competitive schools, UCLA in particular.
I thought since they're both advanced classes, it wouldn't matter too much, but I wasn't sure how much colleges took foreign language into account, so I thought I'd try and get some other opinions. So should he go for IB SL French (w/IB Full Diploma) or AP Physics (no IB full diploma)? How much difference would it make?

what is he planning on majoring in?

If he can get a good grade on the AP french exam take it to show mastery and then he can take physics. He shokd also continue French through an EC or college class.

If it's the difference between an IB diploma and not, then he should definitely take French.

ucla only requires 2...so 3 is good enough

A full IB diploma is worth much more than whether colleges want four years of language.

I did 3 years of language and still got into very selective schools okay, so I don't think it's strictly necessary.
