Hey everyone,
I'm planning on submitting my ACT score to Yale (since they will accept the ACT as a replacement for both SAT I & II). My multiple choice score is really strong - it's at the top of the 50% range - but my essay score is an 8. I'm really puzzled by this score because I think I'm a good writer, and at first I decided to ignore it and focus my energy on applications. But... now I'm having some second thoughts (in other words, I'm a little nervous!). What are your thoughts?

I don't think it will matter as much as some of the other samples/scores that represent how well you write: your essay/short answers, what English class you are in, how well you've done in English,AP scores, etc. Admissions officers understand that essays are graded subjectively and most only use it to verify that your essays/short answers are actually your own work (i.e. the writing, not the score). If you have solid scores in English/good AP scores that should be a testament to your writing and overshadow your ACT score.
