I'm a student in Canada, entering 11th grade next year.
My school doesn't offer any AP courses. However I am taking 4 IB courses , and courses that would be equivalent to honors classes in the US. I cannot enroll in any more IB courses since I wouldn't be able to fit them in my timetable. My schedule is considered rigorous at my school.
I'm wondering if my chances will be significantly lower to getting accepted to an Ivy school or a school like Stanford since I am not taking many AP/IB courses. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA currently. How important is it to take many advanced courses?

It's important to take as rigorous a schedule as possible. That said, if your school doesn't offer any AP courses, the lack thereof won't hurt you. If you're taking as hard a schedule as you can, it should be fine.

Thanks

Directly from MIT admissions...

I'll pause here to add that I frequently saw kids with perfect SAT scores and perfect grades and a gazillion AP classes get rejected. Why? Because often these kids knew how to grind, but brought nothing else to the table. And that's not who we're looking for at MIT. We admit kids who show genuine passion. Sure AP's can be one of many passion indicators - but I emphasize one of many.
