Importance of Being Earnest

I have this huge project due on Monday that involves reading 10 literary criticisms on the play and writing paper, among other things. I was wondering if anyone who knew the play well could suggest interesting topics to write about (can be anything from the obvious satire of Victorian society to whatever). Probably going to be in the format of a 5-paragraph essay (1000 words).

Thanks a lot.

It really isn't so important to be earnest.

being earnest is overrated

I don't see where I would go with that, unless you guys are kidding.

Well seeing as I never read it, I think you know what to do with my comment.

I would write on how Jack/John(?) and Algernon Moncrieff are not earnest at all--how they're almost flippant in their treatment of the young ladies by lying to them about their identities, and how it comes back to bite them in the butt!

Or about how Victorian "earnestness" (as characterized by Algie's auntie) was incredibly vapid and not true to intent...etc...

It's been a while, so I hope those make sense!

you can write about why they all want to be earnest. mebbe they're escaping reality, etc.

I was just kidding, sorry for wasting your time lol

If you want, I have a paper that can be compared to the play. It talks about why telling the truth takes lies and courage. I can scan it and send it to you.

how different settings help to show characters' true colors...how dialogue is so important to the play...wilde's use of comedy etc etc

btw...i loved reading this one!
