importance of class rank in a class of 23 kids?

they only rank the top two in the class. is this important? cuz it's soo smmmalll!

well for ivy league, in a class of 23, i would think you BETTER be 1 or 2, but for other schools it shouldn't matter

This is so funny...23 kids? In the freshman class at my school there is 850 and in my class there is 471. I agree though, you should be #1 unless something derailed you.

the top 5 people in the class are very competitive.

The top 5 at just about all schools are very competitive. But you know the school, does it send several per year to top colleges?

Being the top 1 or 2 in a class of 23 is not much different than being in the top 50% in many cases. DS's class is 25, 100% go to four year colleges, most to really good ones. His school doesn't rank. Lots of schools don't rank, it;s not a big deal. Logisticswizard, your logic is off- in a small private school, you could be anyplace in the class and possibly still qualify for Ivy or similar.

I don't think class rank is such a big deal in your case...I'm assuming that you mean they don't rank but they do distinguish a val/sal. Just try to get the best grades possible, and if that ends up putting you 1/2, great. If not, don't worry too much about it.

I was essentially in the same boat as you, except I had a class of 33. I was really glad we didn't rank, because if we did, I would have looked horrible - there were at least 10 of us that had really good grades and were really competitive. My grades were pretty good, but I know if we'd been ranked it would have looked horrible, probably, like in the top half or third. Only one kid from our class went to an Ivy but he was the only one to apply, and I think his grades were roughly the same or maybe a little better than mine. Although it's sort of rare for kids from our school to apply to Ivies, when they do, the success rate is normally pretty good, I think.

Good luck!

yeah exactly, in a class of 23 kids it depends on the quality of the school. if its some crap rural school or somthing, youd probly have to be top... but if its some private school where most people go to 4 year schools, it deosnt matter much

Yah im aiming for top when i do b/c i go to crap school! and i have 7 in my half the grade 8 in the other half the grade and 5 in this strange class thats combined w/ 5 others from the grade below(Example: 9/10th grade) but i already expect me to b in the top 1-3 they mention Valedictorian and saludictorian at the end of first quater...want to hear something funny the 1-5 kids that make high honors get chosen for Those 2 spots..and usually there just randomly picked!
