Our class rankings come out the middle of our Junior year at my school as a warning, and hten are finalized after the 1st semester of our Senior year.

At my school, Top 20 gets a special thing on their graduation gown and gets to graduate first: so everybody is vying for a spot.

But honestly: is it that important? Yeah, I want Top 20 but some of my older siblings/neighbors weren't in the Top 20 and went to schools ALOT better than some of the people ranked above them... so how important are class rankings? Do colleges look on them alot?

I'm in a class of 309 students by the way, haha.

It helps show how you performed in the context of your school, but your transcript/grades/test scores will probably be given more weight.

“some of my older siblings/neighbors weren’t in the Top 20 and went to schools ALOT better than some of the people ranked above them”

I’d be more inclined to believe that’s because they didn’t apply to selective schools and not because they were rejected. Most people go to state schools for financial reasons. The valedictorian of my class is probably going to community college and no one thinks it’s weird because that’s just what people do around here.

Agreed, it really isn’t that big of a deal besides determining who is valedictorian and salutatorian. Some high schools don’t even offer class ranks. Also, because all HS are different, you being ranked 25th might mean a lot more than someone ranked 1st at a much less challenging high school.

All that really matters for more selective schools is that you are top ten percent, beyond that it is nice but won’t make a major difference.
