Importance of Drama/Art for Engineering Colleges

I'm a math/science person and want to major in engineering/computer science. So, as you may know, there's a "Visual and Performing Arts" requirement at many high schools for graduation and the UCs (some private as well) As I have a passion for computers/math/science, I obviously want to take Java/AP Comp Sci because 1. I'm passionate about the subject. 2. It fulfills "Visual and Performing Arts" requirements at my high school (Also at UCs, I believe.) However, would engineering colleges (Private and UCs) want to see more of Drama or Art as a Visual or Performing Art rather than Comp Sci because it would make me more "well-rounded?" I don't think they would, but I just want to get other opinions. I do have a good amount of ECs involving instruments/arts, so I'm not worrying about the subject matter itself.

By the way, I can't take both Comp Sci and Drama or Art classes in HS because of credit restrictions/subject amounts and the fact that I want to fill up my course load with other courses. (So effectively, I can only choose either Comp Sci or Drama/Art)

Thanks a lot!

I don’t think many (or any) colleges would regard Java/AP Comp Sci as a visual or performing arts subject. That said, if you have a passion for it, you should take it. Colleges don’t really want you taking things that you’re not particularly interested in just to appear well-rounded.

I’ve personally never heard of engineering schools that do care about visual or performing arts. For that matter, I’ve never heard of high schools requiring that to graduate either. Seems pretty strange to me.

For the UCs and CSUs, you can use http://doorways.ucop.edu to find out if a given course at your California public or private high school counts for the visual or performing art requirement.

For other universities, look at their admissions web sites to determine what they require or recommend in your high school course selection.
