Importance of Essay?

Exactly how much of an impact does the essay have on one's overall writing score? I've read in a couple places that it accounts for 30% of the writing grade (which would make sense since it accounts for 1/3 of the writing section on the test) but then I've heard from other people that it doesn't really have that much of an effect. So on average, does anyone know about how much the difference between, say, an 8 and a 12 essay would have on the total writing score?

Idealistically, a "12" essay will let you get away with 2-3 wrong while a "9" essay with a perfect MC will barely be enough to give you an 800 depending on the curve.

So it DOES matter.

Thanks; that makes it a big deal for me because I tend to make 1-2 dumb mistakes on writing MC.

Pretty influential.
I got a 12 on the essay and got 4 wrong on MC and got an 800 on Writing.

I got a MC 76 and 7 essay for January SAT, total 710. It does matter. :(

^ :( :(

Are there any specific resources you guys recommend for essay help?

I think essay matters a lot. I'm great at PSAT writing (I got an 80) but I bomb SAT writing (I got a 650). I think it's the essays. And I don't even get it, because all of my teachers at a school in the top 100 nationally and my published, bestselling author aunt think I'm a great writer. It's so frustrating.

I got a 73 MC 12 essay. That was 790. So yeah, a BIG deal.

I got 100% on the MC and a 7 on the essay and got 770.

I got a 66MC and a 12 essay and I got a 730.

It does matter!

Yo, I got an 67 & a 7 essay, and 630 in composition. That obviously does matter!

Kaplan says the essay counts for 25% of the writing section score, not 30%.

67 and 11 Essay = 720 for me

On the CB website it says: "The essay counts for about 30% and the multiple choice counts for about 70% of the total writing score."

how do people get 76 MC and 67 MC...arent there only like 49 questions

^ Yeah, they're referring to scaled scores; i.e. 49 correct is an 80 scaled, etc.
