Importance of Essays

Hi.
I am from Texas and am Asian American. I have good stats (1600, 3*800, 1/480) and good ECs (though some of them are typical "Asian" ECs).

I have no incredible hook like legacy, URM, athlete, etc. I am not a world class violinist, celebrity, etc. if you know what I mean. I have excelled in my orchestra, and have a few state awards.

Question: How important is essay for Princeton? I might be applying ED and am really trying to get my essay completed (I have been working for some time). I am frankly, not an amazing writer. I am not like the typical illiterate kid or the "all math science" kid. I really like art/politics, but am not sure about writing. Sometimes I have trouble conveying my ideas.

My essays will not be bad. They will not be exceptional. What can I do to make my application stand out?

You mean essayS, lol.

I think the essay is an important way for the adcom to really get to know you better so you need to have your voice come through, but I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself to be so different and exceptional. With your stats, I think you're a perfectly good candidate, just make sure your essays are unique to you.

They are extremely important
