So for someone with good test scores and GPA..how important are the essays. I have a 4.0 and 35 ACT instate and fairly decent EC's..how big of the factor will the essays be in my admission?

probably make or break whether or not you get in.

how do the admission people know that it is the applicant's work?

I have heard several instances on this board alone of a boyfriend or a girlfriend who can write well writing an essay for someone and that someone getting in to some place as a result.

Also, I see advertised all over the place essay "editing" services - actually some say they will write it!

If the essays are your deciding factor for you to get into Michigan, and you had someone else write them then you have much bigger problems ahead.

that is where the SAT/ACT writing section will come in....your writing skills will be compared to the scores....at least that is what I think. (at least the essay scores)

Essays will not be a big deal. Don't blow them off, but don't worry about them pretty much at all.

Essays are very important, but especially if you are borderline. They should be able to tell who wrote them by honors/AP English grades, and SAT scores.

With your 4.0 and 35 In state, and some EC's you are in with just an average/subpar essay.

you don't know what you are talking about

haha I was joking...thought that was pretty obvious.

yeah, it was.

Seriously blackpen , it was pretty obvious what OBrien said.

Anyways , essays- don't neglect them , that would be foolish. You open yourself upto different opportunities with a stellar essay coupled with such excellent stats. You can get a decent amount of merit aid , invitation to the Honors program. If you apply as a pre admit to Ross , the essay is extremely important , regardless of whatever stats you have.

I guess I can't see sarcasm in the text.

Money! Write a great essay, and get money.
