I am applying to History PhD programs. I took the GRE yesterday and was somewhat disappointed with my verbal score (670). My quantitative score (630) pleased, since I wasn't expecting anything better. I have a very high GPA, especially in History, and I expect my application will be generally strong. Will the GRE scores be a setback in applying to top programs? Is it worth re-taking the test?

IMO a 670 is sufficient for a History program. Look at your percentile not your score. Your verbal percentile is much higher than your math.

You're probably fine.

Here are the stats for the University of Minnesota:

The Graduate School : University of Minnesota : Program Reports

As you'll see, the Verbal average was 655.7 last year with 43% of the admitted applicants in the 600-699 range.
