<p>Thank you all for that <em>great</em> information and perspective. Excellent to hear from parents/students who've 'been there' already! </p>
<p>I fully intend to be the one to keep on top of deadlines, research, etc. re: son's HS career and college app. process. Our HS is huge. </p>
<p>I've just been reading some of the college admission books (recommended here!!) and if I recall correctly, some college admission staff point to 'glowing' and specific recommendations from <em>guidance counselors</em> as the tip that brought some students in to the college. I just wonder if son's fairly new guidance counselor would be able to provide something like this (assuming it were warranted). We'll see...most hopefully!</p>
<p>Fortunately there is also a counselor on staff whom parents rave about--he might be able to answer a question or two of, if necessary.</p>
<p>As was pointed out, we'll do as much as possible to foster a positive rel'p with son's counselor and have her get to know him and what he's doing!</p>
<p>Fortunately this forum existst (as well as many good books!) so I can find out the ins/outs from sources other than an overworked, young counselor!</p>
