I'm thinking of applying ED to Columbia and was wondering how important the interview is. Do you get the interview option after you've submitted Part 1 or Part 2 of the app? If you don't get a chance to interview, does it affect your chances?

I got an interview as soon as I submitted part 1 (like a few days later an alumni contacted me). again it is due to availability, and the number of interviewers in your area. some people may not have the opportunity for an interview at all. the interview could only help you, and not hurt you. if you have the chance, go for it! although if you do not get the opportunity, it probably would not hurt you in the sense that there will be no harm, but you won’t be able to reap the benefits of having a good report.

what kind of questions do they ask you? is it relaxed or do they grill you on school/Ec’s?

You get a email from an alum if there is one available in your area after you submit Part 1. Not getting a chance to interview doesn’t hurt your chances since the school realizes that there are simply not enough alums available to interview everybody. However, if you get offered an interview and refuse, it hurts you.
My interview with Columbia is today.

Does the interviewer have part 2 of the application?

Thanks

^don’t think so.

yes we interviewers do not have part 2. we have limited information, i guess part of part 1 you could say. it is not an interview about your grades, it is about your interests and your interest in columbia. assume they know nothing but some small things you could get from part 1 (your major choices for instance).
