importance of interviews?

So... I was just wondering if anyone knows how much weight Wesleyan puts on its alumni interviews.

I interviewed a few months ago, and it did not go that well. I was clearly nervous (it was my first interview), and my interviewer did little to put me at ease. She didn't provide any feedback after I answered, so I felt like I was speaking to a brick wall that would randomly hurl a question at me every so often.

At the time, I figured it wasn't a big deal. So I had a not-so-great interview. But I seriously been having nightmares over this.

Did I completely blow my chances at Wes? Or am I obsessing for no reason?

Interviews are really just to make sure you aren't an ax-murderer or something, and to help you get questions answered and see if Wes feels like a good fit. Don't obsess over it, it won't be a deciding factor.

To be honest, interviews aren't weighted that heavily. At least, that's what an admissions officer told me when I was a prefrosh. I was a little disappointed, because mine had gone pretty well :P Interviews really only help people - a great interview can put someone who is borderline over the edge, but a bad interview can never really hurt you. Admissions officers are never going to read a lukewarm interview report and say "Hmm, this person just seemed nervous the whole time? Clearly not a fit for Wes. REJECT". Then again, if someone did their worst to screw up an interview and was blatantly rude, I could see that having a negative effect. But my guess is that that doesn't happen very often. And to be honest, it sounds like you just had a bad interviewer - it's totally not your fault. A good interviewer should answer questions about Wesleyan :)

It's not important at all. Don't worry about it, the senior interviewers aren't a-holes, and they are pretty much regular dudes and gals, meaning they aren't
going to go out of their way to make your life miserable. And pretty much everyone's interview is pretty awkward and strange in general.

dont worry about your interview. when i did mine (senior interviewer, not alum), it did not go well either and i got in (found out 3 days ago!). it was my first one too, felt very generic, and also lacked feedback.
