Importance of Legacy

I realize the legacy acceptance rate is twice that of a non-legacy applicant but how much does it really help? Would a legacy applicant with SAT scores that are not mindblowing (they are approx. 2230) and an unweighted GPA of 3.77 (all honors and 10 AP's) be competitive?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Maybe. But a family friend's daughter with like stats from competitive private school was denied outright in Dartmouth ED last year. her mother was an active alum and did interviews for admissions for a number of years. really surprised Dartmouth didnt at least defer and play it out to RD due to alum relationship.

Wow, that is unusual. I have never heard of Dartmouth outright rejecting an ED legacy candidate with stats in this range.
