Importance of Math H.S. Grades for Pton Admission

Will a A-/B+ (~3.6) GPA in math impact my chances?
I took Algebra II, Precalc, and Calc AB. The lowest grade ever was a B, the highest - 2 A's.

It’s impossible to look at things like this in a vacuum. Certainly it would look better if you had made an A, but if you are presenting yourself as a humanities applicant, it’s not a huge deal. It also depends on the quality of school you attend. I see you’re from the city. Princeton gets a lot of applications from New Yorkers and is very familiar with most of the schools. If you go to Stuy or Chapin, for example, the low grades will not hurt you as much due to the challenging curriculum.

Thank you so much!

Stuy is rampant with corruption and grade inflation, so I wouldn’t use it as an example of academic rigor.

I don’t go to school in the city

Lol our school (Bx Sci) is a bit less rampant with grade inflation than Stuy. How many kids does stuy get into Princeton per year?

There are six kids from Stuy in my class.

wow stuy totally owns Bronx Science then

No surprise, considering there are nearly 700 students enrolled in each Class.
How many were admitted to Harvard?

I know of eleven kids from Stuy in Harvard’s freshman class.

no love for Brooklyn Tech??? lol

What? Isn’t that the school where the people who couldn’t get into Bronx Sci and Stuy end up?
Oh, and isn’t Stuy the place where people who couldn’t get into Hunter end up? :P

Eight guys enrolled from my alma mater last year.
Only two enrolled at Princeton, however.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, there’s more love for it this year.

Bx Sci and Stuy are comparable. Brooklyn Tech is not in the same league and nto even close.

How about Townsend Harris?
Or Midwood?
What were their rate this year, anyone know?

My source from Townsend Harris tells me that no one was admitted to Princeton from the Class of '07.

Anyway, Ms. GGsushi, your counselor or department should have sent a fully detailed statistics report showing the number of people in your class who earned the same grade, or higher or lower grades.

You’ll be gauged relative to your fellow classmates.

well according to newsweek’s tops public high schools…tech owns stuy and bronx science because they’re not even on the list and tech is really low ([America’s Top Public High Schools | Newsweek Best High Schools | Newsweek.com](http://www.newsweek.com/id/39380) midwood sucks this year…not what it used to be

Actually, akybaky, according to Newsweek, Stuy and Bronx (and other schools like TJHSST and NCSSM) are so much better than schools like Brooklyn (at least on the SAT) that they shouldn’t be on the Challenge Index rankings.

[Newsweek selects Uni as one of nation’s “public elites” again | Online Gargoyle](http://www.uni.uiuc.edu/og/2007/05/newsweek_selects_uni_as_one_of.htm)

For comparison, Tech’s rating is 2.136 ad 64% E&E. TJHSST’s is 7.486 at 100% E&E.

o0o0 ok cool…my bad :-D…does anyone here go to stuy?!?

Fair wager that a majority of the students from NYC here do.
