The quality of a school and its student body cannot possibly be assessed by some arbitrary rankings.

I’ve had the displeasure of working with dozens of students from Stuyvesant High School over the years. They all spoke broken English, and disrupted instructors at every opportunity. They lacked respect and discipline, and their attitudes and behavior completely altered my perception of Stuyvesant as a decent school.

Hunter deserves its reputation, but I am skeptical as to whether or not Stuyvesant or Bronx Science have earned theirs.

The post I quoted accurately reflects the terrible mentality of a majority of Specialized High School students.

If in fact you claimed as much as you know, you would be aware that Brooklyn Technical High School has the same type of students. Brooklyn Tech is way too big as well. In addition to being famous for good science programs Bronx Science has an EXCELLENT English department. Often times its considered to be our best department.

Just for comparison, there are 7 stuy kids at yale in the class of 2011.

5 for us. we didnt do that bad then.

we have like 5 harvards and i’m from a large publich school . so we don’t do too bad  we do have like 400 kids tho..

Impossible, kwu. Stuy sends at least 5 kids to Princeton every year. And last year was no different.
By the way, I haven’t noticed rampant grade inflation in Stuy. The average GPA is around 90, which is lower than in Bronx Scvience, by the way (I saw it somewhow through College Board, and Bronx Science on the same list was 92+). With Stuy being more competitive to get into, it looked like Bronx Sci is inflating.

Well, those five must be exceptionally strong and talented students with unique interests and skills.

They would have to be, considering there are, what, nearly 800 enrolled in each year? So, 0.6% of your class?

When the average GPA is equivalent to an A-, 90, then how can you tell me with a straight face that there is not something fishy going on?

There are one of three possibilities: the vast majority of students are hardworking and dedicated/ the curriculum is not difficult enough/ there is grade inflation.

The average GPA at my school is in the B range: 83 to 89, I haven’t asked/checked. However, 1.5% of '07 enrolled at Princeton, and 6.1% enrolled at Harvard.

Actually, from what Stuy friends have told me a 95 actually puts them in the 50th percentile of their class. Our avg gpa is an 88. Don’t try to pull one over on me please. I have this fact straight from the guidance office.

kwu what school do you go to?

i said no to stuy as well! and then they called me asking to donate to their parent’s fund afterwards! what?!
