hey guys.
just wondering how impt are the SAT 2s. i did pretty badly for writing and i’m wondering if i should take it again. if i take it again on jan 22nd will the results still make it in time for RD to brown?
thanks.

definitely take the writing test over again. Make sure you study for it, b/c it's the easiest SAT II to prepare for by far. You just don't want a low SAT II making the adcom question your academic ability.

so if i take it on 22nd jan would i be in time for regular decision?

yes it would make regular decision

hey thanks for the quick reply.

anyway must i take the writing test? i know brown doesn't really specify any of the 3 tests but i heard a good writing score would give you a better chance. unfortunately i have a MAJOR PHOBIA of writing now you see. haha. i'd rather take physics or something else.

anyone can help?

Look on the app. I don't remember. If it doesn't say on the app, then take any 3 you want.

one last quick question..
do you think percentiles are more impt than the scores?
i've got a 90th and 81st percentile with a 760 and a 770 respectively.
are these percentiles good enough for brown or should i just give any one of them another shot since i'm planning of retaking writing anyways.

thanks thanks guys!!!

Percentile, actual score, doesn't really matter which. There are many SAT II's on which you can only receive as high as a 90th percentile anyways, even if you get an 800.

I doubt that a 760 or 770 would hurt your chances. Lots of people get scores in that range, and once you're up there, the focus turns to other parts of your application like your EC's, essays, recs, etc. If you looked at the Yale results thread (I know, it's Yale, but it's still applicable), the great majority of those rejected or deferred had SAT's in the high 1500's and similiarly very high SAT II scores. The SAT I and II scores are just approximate gauges for the adcom. So don't worry about any sub-800 scores like a 770.

I got in with 670 (writing), 710 (chemistry), and 730 (math IIC) SAT II's. I was really scared my writing score would hurt me, and it probably did, but I got in regardless (I think I skipped a page of MC questions on the writing, because when I got the results back it said I had omitted 10 questions, and I didn't remember doing that at all).

haha cbomo yea, one time i took sat i i didn't bubble in the student response q questions and had 10 omitted...was all disappointed w/ my low score b4 i got thing in mail and remembered what i had done lol~

Yeah, my SATII's were also not that great. Don't worry about them too much.

How really does everyone prepare for the writing?

Get a prep book...princeton review worked well for me. Learn a few grammar rules and how to write the sort of essay that they're looking for, and you'll be set come test time.

I would recommend doing some practice essays, because I didn't and only got an 8 on mine. For the MCs, well, it's pretty much just basic grammar. If you know it, you won't have a problem. If you don't, then get a prep book, but actually go over what you get wrong and learn the rules.

rabokarabekian

what were ur sat 2 scores like

theres a writing SATII?! WHAT??

^ ditto ny0rker.

are you referring to literature?! b/c that test is hard as @%#^#$@

This post dates back to 2004, when there was a separate writing SAT 2. That no longer exists, as there is now a mandatory writing section on the SAT 1. So ignore this thread.

WAIT... if we took the SAT I, we only need 2 subject tests right???!!

Yes, only 2. This is an OUTDATED thread.
