Importance of SAT scores

I've got a 3.8 gpa with loads of AP's and DC classes. I have tons of EC's and great teacher recomendations. However, my SAT scores (while adequate) could be described as lackluster. I am planning on retaking the Jan. 28th SAT test, for one last hopeful boost to my math SAT score, but I was just wondering, are SAT scores, at Vandy, extremly important as an admission factor?

SAT scores are important sicne VU is a medium sized University. however, the admissions office can deal with acceptances on a case by case basis and SAT scores only show the importance of one test and your GPA shows a lot of hard work throughout the years. The SAT writing section is also not being weighed very heavily at all into consideration for admission this year.

Also, What the heck are DC classes? I have heard of AP, IB, GT, and honors, but not DC.

Additionally, consider posting prospective major and school you are applying to for a better read on your chances.

One final note, be sure that the admissions office is ok with you taking the January SAT because some schools are not due to the process of reading applications and the timetable to which they need to adhere.

DC classes are Duel Credit classes that you take for college credit. All of the DC classes are integrated with AP classes at my school. The only difference is that you do NOT have to take the AP test to get the college credit. So many classes, so many names.
-Okay, I am applying as a THEATRE major, so I thought that they MIGHT give me a little leniency towards my SAT scores. Vanderbilt does not require an audition for theatre majors (I wish they did though, because not to brag, but I think that would have bettered my chances) So all I could give them was a resume of all the shows I've done.
--Also, Vanderbilts website DOES say that they prefer that you take the December SAT. But, what can I say? I just didn't get to it. So I'm HOPING that they will consider January scores. We'll just have to wait and see...(They did have a "questions or comments part on the last part of the essays, and I just put as a side note that I was retaking my sat's.)

From the presentation made at S's HS last year, it was the distinct impression that SAT grades were looked at but not a final determinative factor--gpa, recs and ESSAYs were very important. Essays can make or break, along with recs.

I am curious as to why you applied to Vandy which doesn't require an audition for theatre majors and what your essays emphasized.

Good luck!

I applied to Vanderbilt because I have heard good things through the grape vine about their theatre program. This year at my high school, we had a touring group come through and present a program to our school, and two of the actors were from Vanderbilt's drama program, and I was very impressed with them. The two of them obviously stuck out to me. Also, I have visited Vanderbilt, and I feel in love with it. I really like where it's located. It's not to big and not to small. I just knew that it was there that I wanted to spend my college years. Also, of course, Vanderbilt has a great academic reputation.
- The essay that I got to choose, I wrote about my sister who is autistic. I wrote about a play that I was involved in, called "The Diviners" which is about a teenager who is faced with taking care of her mentally challenged brother. I wrote about the part I played, and how it made me realize the similarities between "buddy" and my little sister, and how it taught me to be a better sister.
-My other essay, about "Why Vanderbilt" I wrote a short story about traveling to New York and auditioning for the musical "Wicked" and how Vanderbilt had prepared me for the biggest audition of my life. It was pretty clever I thought....hope that helps...
