Importance of "Senior Show Case"

I have found the posts here helpful. I am in my junior year. I was considering going to NYC this summer and trying to audition for work. It seems that having an agent is very important. I have a few contacts with casting and talent agents through friends, but I don’t really get the process and I dont want to make any dumb mistakes. Can someone post about the process of signing with an agent? Maybe describe how you or your kid went through it? For example, if an agent sets up an interview with you , does that end with a discussion of whether or not they will “sign” you? Or do they call you back for another interview? How many interviews occur? Do you meet just one person, or several people in the agency? Are you supposed to tell them that you want to sign with them, or do they somehow signal to you that they are interested? if they call you back a few times, but none of the appointments ends in an offer, what does that mean? Or do they send you out to auditions and then sign you if you get a role? Any information would be really helpful. Thanks!
